Fifteen years ago, I immigrated to the United States from China, where government control of citizens’ lives is an integral feature, not a glitch, of authoritarian rule. Here in California, I was grateful to find that principles central to human dignity, such as equality, were enshrined in both the U.S. and California Constitutions.
Proposition 16, on the ballot this November, brazenly seeks to take away that equality. Californians must not stand for it.
